About Padmaavat
Padmaavat is a Hindi historical epic directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, inspired by Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s 16th-century epic poem Padmavat. Set in medieval India, the film tells the story of Rani Padmavati, the courageous and wise queen of Chittor, whose beauty and strength become the obsession of Sultan Alauddin Khilji. As Khilji wages war to capture the kingdom and possess the queen, Maharawal Ratan Singh and the people of Mewar stand united in a valiant struggle to defend their honour, freedom, and legacy. Blending grand-scale warfare with emotional drama and breathtaking visuals, the film explores themes of courage, sacrifice, honour, loyalty, and resilience. Acclaimed for its magnificent production design, spectacular battle sequences, unforgettable performances by Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Shahid Kapoor, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s masterful direction, Padmaavat is regarded as one of the most ambitious and visually stunning historical epics in Indian cinema.
