Indu Sarkar is a Hindi historical political drama directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, set during the period of the Emergency in India (1975–1977). The film follows Indu, a shy and idealistic woman whose life changes dramatically as she witnesses the widespread suppression of civil liberties, political oppression, and social injustice during one of the most controversial chapters in India’s history. As she finds the courage to stand up against authoritarian rule, Indu embarks on a journey of self-discovery, resilience, and resistance, risking everything in her fight for truth and justice. Blending history with personal drama, the film explores themes of freedom, democracy, courage, human rights, and the power of an ordinary individual to inspire change.
